Case #1
Intuit, the company behind QuickBooks, has issued a warning to its customers about an ongoing email phishing campaign. The scam involves emails being sent to customers claiming that their QuickBooks plan has expired and asking for payment of a fake renewal charge. Intuit has stated that these emails did not come from the company and advises customers not to click on any links or open attachments in these emails. To protect yourself from this scam, Intuit recommends that customers contact their IT department if they get any of these emails. Ideally, do not open these emails but if you do, please do NOT click on any of the links or open any of the attachments on the email.
Case #2
QuickBooks users may receive phone calls or text messages from individuals posing as Intuit agents. They will claim that your QuickBooks subscription is about to expire and that the renewal payment has not been made. They may offer to take payment over the phone or through wire transfer. It is important to note that Intuit will never call or text its customers to request renewal payment for QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online. Do not provide your credit card or ACH information to anyone claiming to be an Intuit agent.
Case #3
In the lastet version, the scammer makes random phone calls to businesses hoping to find a QuickBooks user. Once they get you on the phone their goal is to gain access to your computer. They will offer to install an update to "fix" your Quickbooks program. To help you with the update, they will ask you to install a remote-connect program - typically AnyDesk or LogMeIn. Their goal is to gain access to your your computer, to all of your data and to all of the information in your QuickBooks. Please contact your IT department if you have installed any programs, allowed remote access to anyone other than your IT Team, or if any outside agent has now or has had remote access to your computer.
Our understandind is that Quickbooks had an Insider Leak passing your information to 3rd party companies or hackers.
